Before you buy another curriculum, I need you to breathe for a moment.

There are probably over a hundred homeschool curriculums floating around social media right now. Every scroll introduces another recommendation, another “must-have” program, another mother telling you what worked beautifully for her family.

And while those recommendations are often well-intentioned, they can also leave you feeling more overwhelmed than when you started.

Here’s what I want you to know.

The goal isn’t to find the best curriculum.

The goal is to find a curriculum that fits your family.

So let me walk you through three things to consider before you make your next curriculum decision.

1. Start With Your Child

Before you ask what curriculum to buy, spend a little time observing the child sitting in front of you.

Ask yourself:

  • How does my child naturally learn?

  • Do they need movement or structure?

  • Do they enjoy reading independently or learning alongside me?

  • Do they become overwhelmed with too much written work?

  • What subjects naturally spark their curiosity?

The curriculum should support the child—not ask the child to become someone else.

2. Consider Yourself Next

This is the step many mothers skip.

A curriculum has to fit you, too.

Ask yourself:

  • How much time do I realistically have each day?

  • Do I enjoy teaching from scripts, or do I prefer flexibility?

  • Am I looking for open-and-go lessons?

  • Do I have the energy to prepare materials every week?

  • What kind of homeschool mother am I becoming in this season?

A wonderful curriculum that requires more than you can consistently give isn’t the right curriculum for this season.

3. Finally, Look at Your Home

Finally, consider your current season of life.

Your homeschool doesn’t exist in isolation.

It lives inside your home.

Ask yourself:

  • How many children am I teaching?

  • Do I have toddlers or babies?

  • Am I working outside the home?

  • What rhythms already exist in our family?

  • What feels sustainable right now?

The right curriculum isn’t simply academically strong.

It’s one your family can actually live with.

Remember…

The foundation of your homeschool isn’t the curriculum.

It’s your child.

It’s you.

It’s your home.

When those three things are considered together, choosing curriculum becomes much less overwhelming because you’re no longer trying to find the “best” curriculum.

You’re learning how to recognize a good fit.

Remember, choosing curriculum isn’t about finding the “perfect” program. It’s about finding a good fit for the child, the mother, and the home you have today.
